UKUTHULA BUSH LODGE GAUTENG - RSA
Project: Extension of the spa, 4 rondavelles suite
Architect: Ingerop Projects
Principal Architect: Thibault Faÿ
Ukuthula means ‘Silence’ in Xhosa and Zulu.
This is a delightful place offering a stunning indigenous and timeless surrounding.
The rondavelles made out of stone plastered brick and thatched roof are perfectly integrated in this Highveld landscape.
The circular shape of these constructions is a traditional architecture of the region and provides serenity to its hosts. The rondavelle is composed by a bedroom, a bathroom, an external shower and an external kitchenette on the terrace where the hosts can have a glimpse of the roaming animals of the savannah. The thatched roof is a very good material for the thermal insulation and regulate the temperature and humidity in summer and in winter. The overhang of the roof is also protecting against the warm sunny days of the summer and in winter leaving the daylight entering and warming the rondavelle.
