NEDERBERG BUILDING
JOHANNESBURG - RSA
Project: 60 affordable dwelling units
Architect: Ingerop
Principal Architect: Thibault Faÿ
Year: 2015
Budget: R 17.5 m
This building in Johannesburg CBD was previously an old age house with 52 bachelor units and will be turned into a 60 two bedrooms unit in extending the northern facade.
Each unit will be partitioned to receive a separate room and the facade extension will add another 11sqm room which will allow families to live in this building. The ground floor will have shops and a crèche and the residents of the building will be able to enjoy the tree planted garden that is part of the property.
The concept of extending the facade is helping regulating the temperature as it is behaving as a buffer space keeping the apartment cool in summer and warm in winter which will reduce the expenses of the modest families living in this building.
