PASSIVE HOUSES CHANTELOUP -FRANCE

Project: 35 passive houses
Architect: AW²
Project Architect: Thibault Faÿ

Year: 2013

Budget: 28 m€

These 35 individual houses are located in Chanteloup (France).

Each unit is oriented towards the south, south-west to take advantage of the sun light all along the day.

The concept of the construction is a timber structure on the southern part with large windows and a concrete structure on the north with external insulation and smaller windows. The combination of these passive concepts, a heat exchanger and hot water production by solar panels integrated on the roof allows the house to consume less than 50 KWH/m², which is considered as passive house by the French regulation.

The modular system in place gives a homogeneous look to the houses from the two bedrooms to the four bedrooms unit. Regarding the organization of the dwelling units, all the bathroom, kitchen and staircase are located in the northern part in concrete and the heat produced in these rooms is recycled by the heat exchanger to pre-heat the air coming from outside in winter helping to save energy. In summer, the passive principle of cross-ventilation is using the breeze to cool down inside. The overhang of the roofs and the wooden blinds are also helping keeping the inside temperature lower during the hot summer days.
